The Voice of The Lord

Psalms 29:3-9 NIV

The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
The God of glory thunders,
The Lord thunders over the mighty waters.

The voice of the Lord is powerful;

The voice of the Lord is majestic.

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars.
The Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon leap like a calf,
Sirion like a young wild ox.

The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning.

The voice of the Lord shakes the desert;
The Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.

The voice of the Lord twists the oaks
and strips the forests bare.
And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

The relationship we have with God is a two-way communication channel for us to speak as well as a time to listen to the voice of God. Unfortunately, most of the time, it is we who do most of the talking, if not all of the time.

Meanwhile, we give God the therapist’s listening couch. For Him to hear out all our concerns and ever-increasing list of needs and wants. Not to worry, you are not alone! After reading this post, my prayer is that we will begin to depend on the Holy Spirit to hear the Lord’s voice.

Today, the above scripture helps us to understand that God also has a voice! Yes! Now it’s our turn to learn listen to God’s voice. A time to ask the Lord, our great Shepherd, to teach us to hear His voice as His sheep. (My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me- John 10:27, KJV ).

What is the Voice of the Lord?

Most importantly, before we explore the characteristics of God’s Voice, I would like to describe what the Voice of the Lord is briefly. It is one of the means in which God uses to communicate His will and intent to men through His written Word, through the Holy Spirit, through dreams and visions, or through men of God.

The Voice of the Lord is Not Limited

His voice is not limited to what we hear! It surpasses basic sound to encompass every form of communication available to man (the written Word of God, signs, creation, dreams, visions, etc.). The voice of the Lord is over the expanse of the waters! Do you know what that means?

God showcases His infinite wisdom and power by overriding the laws of physics that state that sound travels best through solids rather than air or liquids! He defies the laws of nature and science, and He thunders over the waters.

This helps us understand that no issue is ever too silly or too complex for the Lord’s voice to reach!  The same way the hand of the Lord is not too short to save, His Voice is also not limited. (Isaiah 59:1  KJV).

When the Lord speaks over your life, career, future spouse, or your family, His voice will defy every other voice that ever spoke against you! God’s voice speaks over everything contrary to His Word.

The voice of the Lord will be so clear and precise even in the midst of life’s fiercest storms, thundering skies, and crashing waves of the oceans. So tell the Lord, help me to hear what you have to say about every situation in my life.

Moreover, His voice will never, ever be limited by our circumstances! When He speaks, His voice must be heard even if we may not listen! Rocks will hear! All creation will hear and respond to God’s will.

The Voice of the Lord is Powerful and Majestic!

By the voice of the Lord, the heavens and the earth were created! His voice, by the power of His Word, brings life to existence! The voice of the Lord shakes the vast sandy deserts of Kadesh and splinters the renowned strong cedar trees of Lebanon!

Therefore, His voice has the ultimate and final authority in our lives! Once He speaks, no demons can overturn His Word! Additionally, when God speaks, He will defend and keep His word, and He will perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).

God’s voice is majestic and beautiful! His voice heals and soothes all manner of wounds and pain! His voice loves on us, rejoices over us, and sings over us(Zephaniah 3:17)

Every creation has an ear for the Voice of the Lord.

Finally, we now know when God speaks, He must be heard! Consequently, it means all things in heaven and the earth have ears for Him!!!! When you understand this, you will no longer walk in fear or without authority! I implore you to arise and call every mountain in your life by its name and command it to hear the voice of the Lord!

Command the ears of your children only to listen to the voice of the Lord! Let the ears of your womb hear the voice of the Lord! Command the work of your hands to increase by the voice of the Lord. The air, the waters, and all of creation are designed uniquely to respond to the voice of the Lord!

Teach me your voice, oh Lord.

As a result, the fulfillment of our destiny and purpose is wholly dependent on how well we hear the voice of the Lord! How intent and keen we are to listen well will determine how far we will go! This is not only in advancing the kingdom of God but also in our own personal endeavors.

Therefore, ours is to ask the Lord, teach us to hear your voice, Oh Lord. Lord, teach my family to hear you! That in the midst of the raging winds, earthquakes, and fires, like Elijah, we will hear the still, gentle voice of God(1 Kings 19:11-12 NKJV).

In conclusion, we must desire to hear the voice of the Lord. Train your spiritual ears to differentiate the noise of counterfeit voices, fear, and the voice of unbelief from the voice of the Lord. Like the sheep attentive to hear the shepherd, may we ever be so attentive and keen to be led by the voice of the Lord.

Prayer

Lord, I desire to hear your voice over my life. Please teach me how to hear you. Enable me by the power of your Holy Spirit to understand how you also speak in the different seasons of my life. Help me to believe it is your voice speaking over me.

In Jesus name.

Amen.
